Description
We have acquired a large hoard of 1964 Kennedy Halves for our new Overstrike series. We are overstriking them with images of famous U.S. coinage obverses and a common reverse that celebrates the series. In the first product of the series, we have redated the iconic Peace Dollar with the current year (2024). We will issue a new product in the series each month and update the year on each design in subsequent years. In 2024, ONLY 250 pieces will be minted for each product.
About the Buffalo Nickel:
The Buffalo or Indian Head nickel is a five-cent piece of copper-nickel struck by the United States Mint from 1913 to 1938. Sculptor James Earle Fraser designed it.
- Weight: 12.50 Grams (90% AG, 10% CU)
- Obverse: Right profile of a Native American, based on Iron Tail and Two Moons, with LIBERTY to the right, and the date below.
- Reverse: “OVERSTRIKE SERIES” above and below the obverse image of the 1964 Kennedy Half Dollar with the Intaglio Mint Logo flanked by stars on the left and right. “1964 KENNEDY HALF,” “12.50 GRAMS,” TOTAL MINTAGE: 250,” “90% AG,” and “10% CU” around the outer circumference.
Note to collectors: Because this product is overstruck on another coin that has spent 60 years in circulation, each item will be unique and have its characteristics. Some will be brighter than others, and the position of the devices, both overstruck and original, will also differ from one to another.
