Description
The Wild West was never black and white—it was a world of complex characters, and few embodied this more than Johnny Behan. As the final figure in our Wild West Legends series, Behan steps out of the shadows of legend and into the spotlight he deserves.
Often remembered as the sheriff who opposed Wyatt Earp, Behan was far more than a footnote in Tombstone’s history. He was Arizona’s first sheriff, a Civil War veteran, and a shrewd politician who played a key role in shaping the law west of the Mississippi. Unlike the gunfighters of his time, Behan believed in law over bullets, working to maintain order in a town teetering on the edge of chaos.
But did you know Behan once worked as a stagecoach driver? Or that he played a crucial role in securing statehood for Arizona? His life was a testament to the grit and determination that defined the American frontier.

Hallmark at 6 o’clock curved on the lower circumference.
