    Description

Accomplished medallist Hermon Atkins MacNeil designed this award medal for the Pan American Exposition, a world’s fair held in Buffalo, New York, in 1901.  The medal demonstrates MacNeil’s ongoing interest in American Indian themes. The obverse features Liberty walking alongside a bison; the reverse depicts two native Americans, one representing South America (at left, cross legged) and the other depicting North America (at right, seated) sharing a peace pipe to symbolize Pan-American friendship.

    • Contains 2 Troy Ounce .999 Fine Silver
    • Obverse: The obverse features Liberty walking alongside a bison; with the words “PAN – AMERICAN EXPOSITION” across the top circumference, and “TWO TROY OZ.” on the base below, with the hallmark underneath.
    • Reverse: The reverse depicts two Native Americans, one representing South America (at left, cross-legged) and the other depicting North America (at right, seated) sharing a peace pipe to symbolize Pan-American friendship, with “BUFFALO,” “USA,” and “MCMI” above and between.
